Audra McDonald's talents are unmatched in the range and variety of her work as a singer, and actor. She was the recipient of record-breaking seven Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. She was also named as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was given the National Medal of Arts - the top prize given in America for excellence in art and achievement - by the president Barack Obama. Blessed with a luminous soprano, and an unrivalled talent to tell the truth, she is as much as at ease in Broadway and the opera on stage as she is in TV and film roles. As well as the stage roles, McDonald has built a career that is a major performance and recording career. She regularly performs at world-class performances. McDonald was brought up within Fresno California by her musical parents. They also studied classical singing at the Juilliard School, New York. One year after graduation McDonald won an award for the Tony Award Best Performance for an Actress in Musical Lead for her performance in Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years she received two more Tony Awards under the featured actress category. These were for her Broadway performances of Terrence McGally's productions Master Class and Ragtime. In 2004, she was awarded the fourth Tony for her performance in the role she played alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun. When she was in 2012, she was a lead actress on stage in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess she earned five Tony and was awarded the first award in the leading actor category. The actress made Broadway historical records in 2014 when she became the world's most famous Tony Award winner. The role she played as Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the show, which was also the catalyst for her Olivier Award nominated debut on the London's West End in 2017, earned her six Tony Awards. Aside from setting a record in the competition for winning the most awards by an acting, she became the first to have won all four acting categories. Her credits in the theatre are The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth, Night was McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is The Making of the Musical Seduction in 1921 and the Drama That Followed. Frankie Johnny on the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was first seen on television with the award-winning Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First Hundred years. Then, in 1999 she costarred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber on the ABC/Disney television version of Annie. Then, in 2000, she appeared as a recurring on NBC's popular program Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's debut Emmy was awarded for her performance in the HBO movie adaptation of the The Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. Directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson in the leading role, McDonald then returned to network TV in 2003. The actress starred on Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award Winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB in early 2006 and Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald's performance in the HBO film Lady Day At Emerson Bar and Grill earned the actress a fourth Emmy nomination in 2016. The actress starred with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama co-produced through Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald was U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence who she played in the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in the year 2009. She reprised this role in the year 2018, playing season the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. For the role she played, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominated. Presently, she is a guest star in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
