Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. After her father's divorce from her family, she was brought up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. In her early years she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to the word association. Ford's love for acting grew as a child. She was a part of at the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of weeks, she realized this school wasn't suitable for her. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get an acceptance on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall would go on to have frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut in Surgical Spirit in an episode in the year 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate also performed regularly in the theatre, eventually becoming a member of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate started to get noticed due to her stand-up comedy in 1996.
